Floods hit southern Thailand; Evacuation warnings issued

Intense rainfall has triggered widespread flooding in Thailand's deep south, affecting tens of thousands of people and prompting evacuation warnings from authorities. The provinces of Yala and Narathiwat have borne the brunt of the floods, leading to the closure of at least a dozen schools.

Disturbing footage from the region depicts homes and shops submerged in murky brown waters, forcing residents to seek refuge on higher floors.

The impact of the heavy rains extends to the sea, where at least seven boats have sunk in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea since Friday.

The state railway company has reported track subsidence, causing trains heading south to the Malaysian border to halt at Yala, 100 km away. With the situation unfolding, authorities have issued evacuation alerts, urging residents to prepare for potential worsening conditions.
